Tell us a little about yourself!
Hi, I’m Brittney. I’m a photographer living near Indianapolis. I am a lover of cameras, music, coffee, and words. An optimist & dangerously sentimental, I believe in gratitude and have faith that the heart of life is good. I’m lucky enough to have married my first love and we share three crazy children Ruby, Lucy, & Finley. As a family, we love to camp and our golden doodle pup always rides along (usually with his head out the window).
What do you specialize in? What made you want to focus on that specialty/specialties?
I specialize in photographing connections. I shoot newborns, children, and families. While I have a studio I love, my heart is most full shooting lifestyle sessions outside or in my client’s homes.
How did you first get started in photography?
Without emotion a photograph is just a picture. I want my work to feel soulful. I have always been sentimental. I brought my 80’s style point and shoot Vivitar everywhere as a kid. I shot black and whites all over Europe in college. And like so many others, I obsessed over my first DSLR when I had a baby.
It wasn’t until my third child was a toddler that I had supportive friends encourage me to live boldly & follow my dreams to start a business. Connecting with people and making beautiful things has always been what ignites me. It’s about the real stuff.
How has using Iris impacted your business?
IRIS changed everything for my business! I recommend it to everyone. Before IRIS, I was always forgetting to get contracts signed, and I kept my session schedule on a messy paper calendar. My communication was inconsistent at best. With IRIS, everything is organized and professional. I feel like I’m representing myself and my business exactly how I want from start to finish with clean lines, personal touches, and connection with my clients. I genuinely believe it’s the experience that sets us apart from the rest, and IRIS enhanced my client’s experience like nothing else I’ve done for my business.
What’s new with Silver Pennies?
This year I’m working with a stylist for my families. Having a team is so much fun for me and the families I photograph. It helps my clients feel beautiful and everything I do is about them. I’m also working with a boutique and fashion blogger this year to stretch myself. But families will always be my focus.
* I was a child and family psychotherapist and social worker as my first career. I use that experience and education everyday.
* I’m obsessed with self help books, self improvement and inspiring writers.
* Silver Pennies is a magical book of poetry my grandmother read to my mother, my mother to me, and now I read it to my children.
* I love warm drinks, big hugs, and old music.
* My favorite color is white. It’s like a fresh start.
