Tell us a little about yourself!

I’m Jodi with Tickled Blue Photography in Charleston SC. Born and raised in the upstate of South Carolina, but have called Charleston my home for the last 10 years. I’m a 2005 USC graduate and I’m sort of using my degree ;). My husband is a Police K9 officer and we have a son and daughter ages 6 and 3. We love to take advantage of all the fun things to do in Charleston so you can find us at the beach a lot, exploring downtown, trying different foods, going out in the evenings for a family bike ride or just watching the sunset on the front porch.

What do you specialize in? What made you want to focus on that specialty/specialties?

I specialize in families, naturally posed newborns at home or in studio and children. My goal at every session is to capture personalities because every family is so unique. I guess I was most drawn to working with families because it’s the boat I’m in right now with little ones of my own and I can connect so well with these ages. My family sessions are always just lots of fun and I love getting to know each family I get to meet. I love a newborn laying in natural light with neutral colors. It’s how I’ve always loved capturing newborns, just simple and beautiful the way they entered the world.

How did you first get started in photography?

I’ve always had a love for taking photos, even though it use to be with just a point and shoot. It seems I was always taking photos of everything and everybody just documenting whatever I was doing. Funny, I was a master at the self timer before selfies were a thing ;). When my son was born in 2011, I found that my camera was slow, and I was missing his quick little smiles and such, so I invested in my first dslr, a canon rebel. Mostly, I spent so much time online just learning how to do it, practicing on my son, and anyone else who would let me. In 2012, I decided I would try my hand at doing it as a business and things just boomed from there. It was a long road and lots of hard work, but I’m so thankful that I GET to do this! Now, I can’t imagine myself doing anything else really.

How has using Iris impacted your business?

Iris was a game changer for me. I’m old fashioned and love/still use a paper planner, but both my clients and myself love how seamless Iris is. It makes it so easy, everything is in one convenient place, and I’m much less stressed knowing Iris has it all under control and is keeping things organized for me. I love being able to send out reminders, having clients info handy to read through and memorize names just before a session on the go. Contracts, email templates, workflow, it’s all just right there. Hiring my ‘assistant Iris’ has been one of the best investments I’ve made for my business.

What are your future goals for you business? What are you looking forward to?

Lately, I’ve been experimenting more with moody light. I love that shadowed effect and I’m trying to incorporate that more into my studio and in home lifestyle sessions. I’ve also just recently decided to start adding more couples shoots to my session menu. I love my families and wild and crazy little ones that keep me on my toes, but working with a couple who just connect together and you can see the love they have for each other is a real treat and I’m excited to do more of that in my future.

Fun Facts!

-This is my very first feature and I’m so ‘tickled’ over it!
-Back in 2005, I came really close to being on the show Deal or No Deal! (remember that show?) I stood in line for 6 hours to audition and told them they needed a red head on the show! So, I guess they thought so too because I got a call back for a second audition. Although, I never made it past that, but making it to round 2 was pretty exciting for me.
-I also own a pet sitting business that I started when I first moved to Charleston. It’s very small time now, but I learned a lot about running a business from doing that like customer service and the dreaded accounting side of things.
-The first CDs I ever bought were Reba Mcentire and Alabama-greatest hits! I’m always listening to music while I edit and love everything from George Strait to Flo Rida 😉
